“Before You Take A Student Teaching Position…”

The Classical Teaching Initiative blog (April 14, 2025)

In case you are considering a student teaching position, take note of a recent blog from our partners at The Classical Teaching Institute, who would encourage you to “be bold” and jump right in.

Partly a question of economics (read: pay) but also a matter of the arrangement: the number of hours, the apprenticeship model (if any), and the reputation of the program (talk to those who’ve gone before you).

Whatever the situation, take some unsolicited advice from a master teacher and investigate the opportunities to start teaching immediately. Teaching is not for the faint of heart, but you just might find yourself learning the craft on the job while working with some veteran teachers who can show you the ropes. Certainly Joshua Gibbs will be cheering for you as you take to the field.
